About Therapy
You did it!
Your brave self, set up an appointment with me, Amy, to help you manage your swirling mind, feelings of guilt, and need to be perfect.
Even if you have done therapy before, you are still uncertain, and you have many questions. “Will we be a good fit? Do you really need therapy, or will therapy even work?” While holding onto some doubts, you courageously walk toward the office suite. Feeling hesitant, you stand in front of Suite 208’s door, wondering, “Do you go in? Do you knock?” Ahh, yes, you remember, so go in.
Once in the office, you sit in one of the brightly colored waiting room chairs, see a fish tank, and hear music and sound machines (it is a therapist’s office 🙂). I come out to introduce myself and greet you with a smile. We then move into my office, where you will see a desk, couch, chairs, and bookshelves loaded with therapy books.
On the walls, you will see various art and the mandatory license and diploma. I offer you the couch as I take my spot in the chair. Sitting on the cozy yet firm couch, surrounded by pillows, you ask to use the soft textured blanket. I say, “Of course, it is there just for that purpose.”
Then we begin talk.
I start by asking you what brought you in for therapy. You are still hesitant, yet as the session continues, you notice that you are becoming more comfortable and find it easier than expected to talk with me.
By the end of the session, you feel relief and a sense of connection. We talk about our next session together and what to expect. Perhaps we might do a mindfulness exercise.
I am excited for our next session because I genuinely enjoy sharing mindfulness and its many benefits, including decreasing stress. It’s exciting to see you start living your life mindfully and experience its transformative power.
About Me
Helping others live mindfully is my mission.
I have been a licensed counselor in Missouri since 2004. Wow, that surprises even me. Along my journey, I learned different techniques to help my clients. Mindfulness is one of my favorites. I feel the difference in my life, and I see the difference it makes in the lives of others. As you can see, I can get hung up on it.
We will create healthy routines and behaviors and understand beliefs of self and the world and how they contribute to your sadness, anger, or anxiety. We will examine current problems and hash them out to find solutions or perhaps accept the uncontrollable (yeah, that’s a tough one).
The path we take depends on where our conversations lead us. You are unique, and your wellness journey must fit you. What’s great is that you are not alone on this ride. I’m right here with ya! I’m here for all of it.
I incorporate living mindfully in my life, too.
While cooking in my kitchen with Dave Matthews singing in the background, I am there, present, in the moment – tasting the flavors and smelling the aromas of butter, garlic, and onions.
When I take my morning walks, I remember to pause and take in my surroundings, I am grateful for the chirping birds and sunbeams. I also linger in the embrace of the hugs from my son, who tells me he is a tween (ack).
I want to be present with my husband, family, and friends as we create and preserve memories – just as I want to be present with you.
